Agartala, Tripura, August 7 (HBTV): Tension flared in Tripura’s Unakoti district after a violent clash erupted between two groups in a tribal village over allegations of dog slaughter and sale of pet dogs. The incident took place late last night at ward-1 of Hirachhara ADC village, under Gournagar RD Block, near Kailashahar.

Local sources say the conflict had been brewing for days after three individuals were accused of killing dogs for meat and selling pets. One of the accused persons, Pintu Das, had been absconding.

Things took a violent turn when relatives of the accused person allegedly attacked the house of the complainant, Rajaram Nuniya Munda. In the ensuing scuffle, at least four people, including Munda’s wife, were seriously injured—some reportedly attacked with sharp weapons. They were rushed to Bhagaban Nagar District Hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Pintu Das’s family claimed that they were attacked first by Munda’s group. Two members from their side—Chandan Das and Soma Bauri—were also allegedly injured, with Chandan suffering a severe eye injury.

With the situation spiraling, a heavy police force from Kailashahar and Irani stations, led by SDPO Jayanta Karmakar, was deployed. Authorities confirmed that seven people, including a woman, were injured.

Security has now been tightened, and patrolling intensified to prevent further clashes. Police say a full-scale investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken against those responsible.

The incident has left the local tribal community tense and anxious, with officials maintaining a close watch on the ground.
